ITANAGAR, Sept 4: The Governor of Arunachal Pradesh Lt. Gen (Retd) Nirbhay Sharma and Chief Minister Nabam Tuki today conveyed greetings to the members of teaching community of Arunachal Pradesh.
In his message to the people, the Governor said that Bharat Ratna Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, former President of India, was a philosopher and a genius, who preached high moral and ethical values. The birthday of this great son of our motherland, who was also an ideal teacher is observed as ‘Teachers day’ as a tribute to the teaching community. He expressed hope that the occasion will inspire the teachers to rededicate themselves toward nation building and laying strong foundation of the society.

PWD takes over BRTF roads
Aalo, Sept 4: State PWD (Highway) takes over Bam to Aalo and Aalo to Pangin BRO roads from 1448 BCC, 44 BRTF under Project Brahmank in a dilapidated condition. The Assistant Engineer Highway, Er. Gemar Padu while taking over these two roads from his BRO counterpart told that the road will be again handed over to Ministry of Road Transport and Highway by his higher officer for onward handing over to the Concessionaire. The Assistant Engineer further reported that Executive Engineer Er. Bini Pelen has already taken over Tai to Bam stretch of road while taking over all other stretches of BRO Roads under Project Arunank and handed over the same to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway (MORT&H).

AASSATA seeks regular salary
ITANAGAR, Sept 4: The All Arunachal Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan Teachers’ Association (AASSATA) has sought immediate release of 10 percent state matching share to avail the SSA teacher’s monthly salary.
In its letter written to the state education minister, while pointing out that the bitter experience of getting monthly salary after five to six months is frustration for the SSA teachers, it appealed for regular payment of salary so that they can impart quality education without any glitch.

District health society conducts WIFS training of AWWs
SEPPA, Sept 4: The District Health society has conducted the WIFS Training of Anganwadi
Workers (AWWs) of East Kameng District from August 27-
On the inaugural session Dr. K. Lapung DRCHO informed about various programs and activities of the health department where the direct participation and involvement of AWWs are very much needed for the success of the program, like Antenatal Care (ANC) of pregnant women, Immunization of children and various methods of Family Planning facilities available at the health facilities of the District. He directs all the AWWs to work in unison with ASHAs, ANMs and other health workers.
Dr. N. Geiyi DMO suggested that the duty and work of the AWW and ASHAs are interrelated and without the cooperation of two workers success cannot be achieved by either Health department or the ICDS department. He direct all the AWWs to take full benefit of the Training and give service to needy villagers and submit timely report of their performance for further compilation and onward submission to State Govt.

Review meeting on implementation of RGGVY held
ITANAGAR, Sept 4: Tali MLA cum Parliamentary Secretary Markio Tado convened a review meeting on implementation of RGGVY under Tali constituency in Kurung Kumey on Tuesday. The meeting was called considering the slow implementation of centrally sponsored schemes which were sanctioned in 2008 and attended among others by Superintendent Engineer Electrical, Executive Engineer (Electrical) Kurung Kumey Division and Panchayat leaders.
The local MLA apprised the department for early completion of six projects under his constituency. Further Tado and Panchayat leaders urged the department for immediate restoration of power supply in the area, stating that no power supply is getting in the area. It also urged the executing agency to properly monitor works and guide the contractors to maintain quality works.

Gelo returns home safely, Chacko still untraceable
ITANAGAR, Sept 4: The missing Arunachalee citizen Techi Gelo returned home late this evening. He had gone missing on 2nd September from Gohpur, Assam. Detail information about his reappearance is awaited.
Earlier, the Nyishi Elite Society (NES) today claimed that Gelo has been abducted
by an armed group. This revelation was made after executive members of Nyishi Elite
Society yesterday paid a solidarity visit to the family of Gelo. The abductors claimed
themselves to be members of National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB)-
However, when contacted SP Sonitpur Sanjukta Parashar said that family members of have not informed them about any call regarding kidnapping case. She had also appealed to the family members to share details with Sonitpur police if any ransom call is made by abductors. “Without sharing any information related to missing person, how can we help them,” said SP Sonitpur.
On the other hand, even after passage of one week, the whereabouts of prominent businessman K P Chacko is still not known. Chacko was kidnapped by armed miscreants from his rented house, Naharlagun on Thursday last week. Though it was said that police have been making all possible efforts to trace Chacko, owner of Best Bakery chain at the earliest and are also taking the help of police forces of neighbouring districts, the police seem to be clueless even after a week of the abduction case. Business community yesterday expressed their resentment over the alleged failure of authorities to trace out Chacko. Meanwhile, the NES and the All Nyishi Students’ Union (ANSU) have appealed to the kidnappers to release Chacko on humanitarian ground.
Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seval Dal also appealed for early release of abducted businessman Chacko. The APCSD also urged state government to issue high alert order in state capital for greater of general public.
APSCW asks Govt to reconsider shifting of Mother’s Home
ITANAGAR, Sept 4: A team of Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) after a visit to the Tourist lodge at Banderdewa, proposed to house the Mother’s Home, has requested the State Govt. to reconsider the decision of shifting the Mother’s Home to the tourist lodge.
The team found that the building is not suitable as well as safe for keeping the mentally and physically challenged persons.
The proposed building, with no electricity and water supply connection does not have sufficient rooms to accommodate the physically and mentally challenged persons and staff of Mother’s Home.
The Mother’s Home has 18 boarders, out of which four are minors.
The team has further said that there is no boundary wall and in order to reach the place, a person has to climb many stairs which is not at all suitable for physically challenged persons.

Seva Dal & APYC urge political parties not to politicize the criminal incidents
ITANAGAR, Sept 4: While responding to the demands for resignation of Home Minister by Bharatiya Janata Party, the Arunachal Pradesh Congress Seva Dal appealed all the political parties of state not to politicize the incidents like kidnapping of businessman KP Chacko. They stated that being a citizen of Arunachal Pradesh all have equal responsibilities and citizens need to help police personnel.
Criticism of state government is not the solution to such problem, they added. They also appealed people of Arunachal to avoid keeping house maid, install CCTV in both rent house as well in personal residence and also don’t let unknown person occupy house without proper verification.
Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) also today strongly condemned the demand for the resignation of Home Minister.
Terming the BJP’s demand of HM’s resignation at this critical juncture unfortunate, APYC president Nyamar Karbak said, “this is a time for everyone cutting across political line to join hands for curbing such criminal activities like abduction instead of indulging in political mudslinging.” The APYC urged the BJP not to play cheap politics to gain political mileage out of this grave situation.
While expressing solidarity with the family of K P Chacko, the APYC appealed to the police expedite investigation. It also appealed the kidnappers to release Chacko at the earliest.

Natung inspects Bomdila tourist lodge

I worked at Silla Pry School as a single teacher for six years in an OBT building. I also served at Bana, Pabua , Bazarline Seppa and new Seppa schools till 2003. I taught almost every day without any holidays. A number of engineers, scholars, doctor, police, teachers are among my many students.
I found that the children of the district have inborn talents but there is lack of educational environment at homes. It is the responsibility of the parents and educated members of the society to play their roles in propagating educational environment, competitive spirit and positive thinking to improve the quality educational behavior, social and moral character among the future generation.
I tried my best to serve the people of East Kameng, Education Department and the society. I have played my part with positive spirit.
AAPSA and Sahodaya celebrate teachers day
ITANAGAR, Sep 4: The All Arunachal Private Schools’ Association(AAPSA) and Sahodaya Complex Arunachal, jointly celebrated Teachers’ Day at the auditorium of Royal International School, Papu Nallah which was attended by over 400 teachers and an equal number of students from the various private schools of the Capital Complex. Organized under the leadership of Henry David, President, Sahodaya Complex, Arunachal and Jenny Riba, President, AAPSA, the event was all for placing on record the sacrificing and untiring efforts of the teaching community.
The programme which began with informal interaction among teachers through party games, culminated in a cultural extravaganza presented by students and a fellowship meal. While inviting all to the function, Jenny Riba, President AAPSA highlighted the various activities taken up by AAPSA in enriching the educational gamut of the State and called upon both teachers and students to collaborate with AAPSA and Sahodaya Complex Arunachal which keep educational excellence as a supreme priority.
Raymond D’Souza, Member National Monitoring Committee for Notified Minorities, Govt. of India, who was present on the occasion called upon students to recognize the unique role that teachers play. “Teachers are nation builders and shape the destiny of nation by moulding the future of young people. God created all and teachers participate in this creative activity of God by shaping the lives of young people, thus making them fit for various careers”, said Raymond. He also called upon students to give utmost respect to teachers.
Rt. Rev. John Thomas, Bishop of Itanagar, who is also one of the Patrons of AAPSA, while gracing the occasion congratulated the teachers for choosing the noble profession of teaching and added, “Your role as ‘guru’ is unique and it is a vocation and privilege”. Bishop John Thomas also appreciated the efforts made by AAPSA and Sahodaya in creating an educative ambience through various programmes involving students, teachers and parents.
Nabam Rebia Speaker of Arunachal Legislative Assembly eloquently spoke on the uniqueness of teaching profession and called upon teachers to equip themselves with all skills necessary for effective teaching and encouraged them to be role models. Rebia also stressed on the necessity to train quality teachers for the State. Speaking in a lighter vein, Rebia said, “I too am a Headmaster in the Legislative Assembly, but my ‘teachers’ are all disciplined and it is a great time being with them!” Rebia made a token financial contribution to AAPSA and Sahodaya and wished the organizations all the best in the mission of education. He also gave away the Best Teacher Award and Certificates for the best teacher of year 2014 from every school present.

Since times immemorial, Indians have respected and idolized their teachers and placed above the God. Earlier, we used to call our teachers 'Guru' and now it's the contemporary 'Sir' or 'Madam'. Nevertheless, the role of teachers has remained the same. They were, are and will continue to be our guiding light, creating conditions conducive to our overall development. We will always be thankful to them for their constructive support. It is as an expression of this gratitude only that we celebrate Teacher's Day in India.
The idea of celebrating Teacher's Day took ground independently in many countries during the XX century; in most cases, they celebrate a local educator or an important milestone in education (for example, Argentina celebrates Domingo Faustino Sarmiento's death Anniversary on September 11 since 1915, while India celebrates Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan's birthday on September 5 since 1962). These two factors explain why almost all countries celebrate this day on different dates, unlike many other International Days.
Teacher's Day is a tribute to the hard work and devotion of the teachers all year long, to educate a child. Indian Teacher’s Day is dedicated to Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, who was one of the most distinguished diplomats, a philosopher a zealous advocate of education and one of the greatest scholars and teachers par excellence of all times, and his contribution towards Indian education system apart from being the first Vice President and the second President of India. As a tribute to this phenomenal great teacher, his birthday is observed as Teacher's Day across India. As a matter of fact, when his students and friends asked him for the permission to celebrate his birthday, it was he who asked them to celebrate the day as Teacher's Day, honoring the efforts of teachers across the country.
Dr. S Radhakrishnan was born on September 5, 1888, at Tiruttani, forty miles to the northeast of Chennai (then Madras), in South India. He graduated with a Master's Degree in Arts from Madras University. In April 1909, he was appointed to the Department of Philosophy, at the Madras Presidency College. From then onwards, he was engaged in a serious study of Indian philosophy and religion, and went on to become a teacher of Philosophy.
In 1918, Doctor Radha Krishnan was appointed as the Professor of Philosophy, in the University of Mysore. Three years later, he was appointed as a Professor to King George V Chair of Mental and Moral Science in the University of Calcutta. Dr. Radhakrishnan even represented the University of Calcutta at the Congress of the Universities of the British Empire in June 1926 and the International Congress of Philosophy at the Harvard University in September 1926. In 1929, Dr. Radhakrishnan was invited to take the post vacated by Principal J. Estin Carpenter, in Manchester College, Oxford.
In Oxford, Dr. Radhakrishnan lectured the students on Comparative Religion. From
1936-
Dr. Radhakrishnan penned down a number of books during his lifetime, some of which are like The Hindu View of Life, The Idealist View of Life, Religion and Society, Eastern Religions and Western Thought and A Source Book in Indian Philosophy. He had also written for some of the most reputed international journals.

Chaired the University Education Commission in 1948-
Radhakrishnan had also strongly recommended the teaching of spiritual and ethical aspects of the religions as it is evident in the report of the University education commission of which he was the Chairman. The report maintained that: “Unless morality is taken in a larger sense it is not enough. If we exclude the spiritual training in our institutions, we would have to be untrue to our whole historical development. To be secular is not to be religiously illiterate. It is to be deeply spiritual and not narrowly religious.” To enable students to become enlightened civilized citizen, he used to lay stress on the need of ethical teaching while addressing them.
The significance of celebrating Teachers' Day: The Radhakrishnan Commission's suggestions helped mould the education system for India's needs. Dr Radhakhrishnan believed that "teachers should be the best minds in the country". Teachers Day is the only occasion when we remember the time spent with our teacher, what they taught and what we are today. Teacher guides us towards the success in every aspect of life. Teachers are the prime movers who commit their whole life to the welfare of the youth; hence they are the greatest builders of a society or a nation. If we are proud of our country, our progress, our wealth and power, then we should be proud of our teachers.

A commendable job
Dear Editor,
Since the outbreak of Japanese Encephalitis in the state, the Health Department has tightened its belt to cope with the situation and has created awareness for prevention of the dreaded disease in various parts of the State.
However, JE has claimed 3 lives in Arunachal while 17 patients who have been detected with the disease are being treated outside the State.
There was growing demand for free vaccination by the concerned people. Accordingly, health department has taken up with the Centre Government for providing free vaccination, but its consideration is still under process.
Meanwhile hundreds of individuals have taken vaccination by paying themselves but there is a chunk of people who could not afford the vaccination due to high cost.
In the meantime I found Arunachal Pradesh Building & Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (APB&OCWWB) has came up with a programme on 14th August 2014 at Itanagar where it has provided thousand or above JE vaccination to its registered members. It has truly touched me because these workers are the workforce of this state, who spends their time mostly on road & other work places.
Though it was raining continuously but still they stood with umbrella in a long queue carrying their children. It was really a touching moment for me.
The APB&OCWWB team deserves appreciation particularly its chairman Nyamar Karbak for such specific services rendered to the workers.

No penny to waste on corrupt officials
Dear Editor,
The other day I went to the NRHM Office, Naharlagun to upgrade and update my education qualification status as I have toiled to achieve this higher degree certificate while working as an NRHM employee. But the story took an ugly turn when the dealing assistants refused to update and validate it and bluntly told me that there is no such facility to upgrade and update one's higher degree qualifications achieved later, once the candidate is absorbed into the job. But sensing the fact that they were simply trying to fool me, I dared to meet the Director and as it ought to be, he forwarded my application to the dealing assistants. Then only they reluctantly took my application but I still don't know when they are going to put it up or am I supposed to meet the Director again, just simply to request him to direct and dictate his crooked dealing assistants what they must otherwise have to do without the command of their higher authority?
Now, I wonder how the system has gone to that extreme level of bad in our State that one has to pay commission to the responsible servants every time just to carry out their work as if they are hired brokers.
From this attitude I can simply gauge that it's not the officers but the dealing assistants who torture the poor fellows of our State more often.
So, next time when you find such government servants who purposefully look for something, please make them realise that they are being genuinely paid by the State Govt for their great service to the State and they need not delay or manipulate things just to compel the needy and helpless citizens to tip them, for there are many people in our State for whom every penny earned through hard labour counts.

Dear Editor,
Through your esteemed daily, we the Intellectual Activist Movement of Dumporijo (IAMD), would like to draw the kind attention of Deputy Commissioner of Upper Subansiri district regarding the selection of beneficiaries under PMEGP.
PMEGP is a credit linked subsidiary program of govt of India launched in 2008 to generate continuous and sustainable employment opportunity in rural and urban areas but instead of providing employment opportunity and selecting the most deserving candidate, the whole process has been turned into political battle of choosing their respective candidates or beneficiaries and hence depriving the deserving candidate.
Fact also reveal that none of the benefited candidates since the inception of this programme in AP have been successful in implementing their project under this programme. It clearly signifies that the administration have failed to point out the deserving candidate which more or less is due to the political pressurisation on the selection committee and irresponsibility of the administrators .
In this regard IAMD humbly suggest the selection committee to choose the beneficiary by dividing the quota equally among every constituency as per the population.
IAMD would like to request the district administration and selection committee of PMEGP, who are going to conduct interview to make sure that this time they would select the most deserving candidate who has the ability to take benefit from the programme and do justice to all.

I would like to share the problems being faced by the students of Govt Primary School Moba Doke Village, under Tirbin Circle, West Siang district, which was established in 1987.
The school is one of the most reputed Government Primary schools imparting quality
education since many years. Now parents and students is crying for urgent attention
of the local MLAs, PRI's and Public leaders to continue academic season 2014-
The students of this school were compelled to take admission in Govt. Middle school

Let us fight against drug abuse
As per the report in local dailies, Doimukh Police seized more than a quintal of ganja from Doimukh town on Tuesday and arrested three persons in this connection. Police seized the huge consignment of Ganja from two persons while they were transporting them on a motorcycle. The most saddening part is that one of the arrested people includes a woman. Usually no one will suspect a women and it looks like she tried to take advantage of such situation. Women plays role of mother, sister and are considered to be emotional guide in any family.
Therefore involvement of women in drug peddling is alarming and a serious cause of concern. Concern authorities should take note of this development. Today drug addiction has become a major problem affecting the lives of many Arunachalee citizens. We should not depend only on police and government authorities to crack down against drug smugglers. The citizens themselves have to take the initiative. Arunachal is small state and therefore if civil society gets involved it will be easy to take on these drug peddlers. The process has to begin from family level.
